Pull Box Reviews 11/4/09
Sorry for taking a few extra days to get this done but I had a busy week. Not that you care but I’m telling you anyways. This week’s books were pretty cool so that’s always a plus when buying books. So read on and see what I thought of them.
Deadpool Team –up 899
Well who doesn’t want another Deadpool book? That’s right nobody because everyone loves that crazy son of a bitch! This book seems like it’s going to be one of the funniest books out on the shelves. This issue he teams up with Hercules and you get remind how much of a big dumb guy Herc is. From page one you will be laughing and just downright enjoying yourself till that very last page. Which I must say would make a super awesome poster. So if you like team-up books and who doesn’t then get to your local shop and pick up this book and add it to your pull list!
Captain America: Reborn 4
So umm yea anything that has Victor Von Doom in it is awesome we can all agree on that, right? Brian Hitch’s art work is just as amazing as Ed Burbaker’s writing for this story. There is a fair amount of action in this book is which always a good time. You get to see a lot of characters you love to see working together and how the story runs nicely with what’s going on in the rest of the marvel universe. Hitch’s Baron Zemo is fucking sick I want a sketch from him so badly. With what happens in the last few pages of this issue makes you want the next one right away. I have been enjoying Captain America Since Burbaker took over and this is no different. So if you’re not picking up this mini or the regular series you should be its worth every penny.
HEROGASM 6
Garth Ennis is one of the craziest writers to be putting out books today and well his take on what happens when all the “heroes” go off to fight a “CRISIS” is well just fucked up. If you are a regular reader of any of his work you know he has no line drawn where he will not cross. This book shows you that in a way that you will not forget. I’m done stroking his ego now to the book at hand. It was a great ending to the min-series. Some of the highlights were you get to see one more reason The Female is just bat shit crazy when her and the Frenchman do their idea of the fastball special. How the events of what happened pissed the Homerlander off even more then he already was. Lucero and Dubisher do what’s right when they needed to do because they are soldiers and it’s what a good one does. The series is well worth the read even if you’re not reading the ongoing one. Mary Fuckin’ Poppins indeed.
The Boys 36
Ok now that we are done with the mini-series like get back to the regular one. It is really nice to have Darick Robertson back on the art duties for more then just covers. This issue is the rest of Mothers Milk origin story about what Billy did for him with helping him get his daughter back. If you remember in the first few issues he mentions to MM’s daughter how he helped get her back for her dad and now is when we see what he did. Billy is a downright saint when you find out more about him, yes granted this is more like a demon but hey they are still saints are they not I mean they were once angels…well some of them. Anyways he is a good man and if you read this you will see why. You find out that MM was on the bridge the day it went down which is a pretty cool thing to see. I like the times when it’s MM talking to Hughie about just the whole thing it is they do and it effect’s their lives. I think everyone should be reading this book so go and pick up the trades if you haven’t been keeping up with it. Then go and buy issues of the ones that are not out in trade yet.
Haunt 2
So here we have the 2nd issue of the new Kirkman and McFarlane and it’s pretty good so far. The story is pretty bad ass from the get go so that always a good thing. The main character reminds me of Spawn meets Venom which just means it’s bloody as hell. Not too many people would have a “cleaner” crying over well anything if you think about it. Ryan Ottley’s work is looking very Tony Moore in this issue and that is never a bad thing so keep up the good work sir. So in short if this ends up like any of Kirkman’s other books then it will be worth reading till it ends. I’m guessing in issue 7 something huge will happen and it will blow our minds. That’s just a guess though don’t take my word for it but do start buying this book!
Superman: World of New Krypton 9
It’s been a pretty decent book so far and I want to see how it all ends so I will continue to read it. The book is dragging a little bit but what do you except with Superman books. I’m sure when all is said and done it will have been worth the wait. In this issue not too much happened that made me go goddamn that was cool or oh shit can’t wait to see where this ends up. Well that very last page is one of those “oh shit” type of moments that’s about it for me in this one. I feel the book has been just getting dull in the past few issues and this issue was no different from those.
The Amazing Spider-Man 610
Spider-Man Spider-Man does whatever they writers decides he can. I don’t know why I keep reading Spidey but I do. I started to pick it up during the Road to Civil War and all that stuff was wicked cool and I even stuck with it during OMD. Now I had always liked old web-head a lot since I was a wee little lad and one of m buddies is a huge fan so I had a pretty good idea on what was going on. I mean it’s not like he is totally bad to read some of the stories have been good since then but it’s been a rough ride. This issue was the end of an arc that involved Ben Reilly so that should tell you how good it was….yea pretty much my thoughts also. I think they need to stop have the book come out 3 times a month that might make for better stories. We will see how much longer this is in my pull box.
Batman Confidential 36
Ah there is only one Batman and that is Bruce Wayne! This book has been nothing short of awesome since its 2nd story arc ‘cause well anyone who read the first knows it was a bag of shit. Anyways You should pick up this book seeing how it’s the start of a brand new arc and you know that means a new writer and artist. This story is brought to us by Royal McGraw and Marcos Marz they kick it off nicely and Marz’s work is really f’n cool. It might be me but I’m always a fan of the Blackhawks when they are used. Something about flying aces always makes for a good time even when it’s for all of 10 panels. The Twist at the end was nice so I can’t wait for next month’s issue.
Doom Patrol 4 Blackest Night Tie-In
Well I guess it was an ok book I don’t have much to go off of here I have never read anything that involved Doom Patrol. So this was my first tango with them and I didn’t mind them but at the same time I won’t adding them to my pull list. Nobody died in this issue so no big news in that department. I didn’t read the second-feature which I would like to because I enjoy the Metal Men. At least now I have a really cool Sinestro Corps ring YAY!
